So after my DNF I have been pretty eager to get out geocaching again! I have also been pretty eager to get up to Orillia. I love it up there! It is awesome :). So Alyssa and I finally made our trip up. Unfortunately we did have a DNF, but I've gotten over my first one, so I was able to cope, regardless of how frustrating it was.
I love Orillia, it is such an awesome place, and Alyssa's uncle's property is such a nice property. I love it. And, the one cache that I really wanted to find, was pretty easy. It was one put there by my father-in-law, and I have had my eye on it for a while. I've been carrying around this trackable, supersheep,
with me forever now, and finally gave it a new home. I don't know why this trackable in particular I wanted to put in this cache in particular. I have had trackables before, so this was nothing special, but for some reason I just really wanted to put it in this cache.
This was the first trackable I had ever found, way out in Victoria. I was so excited to find it, and when I went home and looked it up, I
was amazed. I had come to Victoria, all the way from New Zealand. That's crazy to me. It traveled so far. Trackables to me are just awesome. They always seem to have a cool story. So many times I wondered who else carried around supersheep? Why did they put it in the cache they chose? It was just so cool.
Orillia is one of the best places for me to go and relax. I don't know what it is about there, but when I go, I feel incredibly lazy. Kind of lazy in a good way though. It isn't too far from the city, but it's far enough. Usually when I go I do my best to get all of my work done in advance, and then I just have nothing to worry about. I can just relax, enjoy the awesome family, and have nothing to worry about.
Plus I got to do some geocaching. As I said, Cybersalt was the main one I wanted, but not the only cache I wanted to go after. I did want to go for somewhere around 5 or 6, but Alyssa isn't as into it as I am. So in the end we went after three, and unfortunately only found 2. My video for this one really sucks, because I had mixed emotions about making a video, but I'm going to post it anyways.
For the cache that we found, we walked down a very nice trail. I liked it a lot. I assume it was some kind of rail way before, but now has been turned into a hiking trail/bike path through the marsh. In the spring/summer, it would probably be gorgeous! the fall was a little depressing... but depressing in a very beautiful, natural, way. I thought it was fantastic.
Our DNF frustrated me though. First of all, I don't like micro caches, and our DNF was a micro. they just seem pointless to me. I like finding caches with SWAG in them. Stuff we can trade, track, and look at. The one we found, Dino Egg (GC2JE30) was a peanut butter jar, and it was "Dino Themed" and was filled with little toy dinosaurs. That was funny I thoug
h :).
The only thing I hate worse than micros, is caches that are purposely ridiculously hard to find. I'm not saying I expect the cache to just be in the open. Dino Egg was hidden pretty well, but searching for it was fun. I just think that if I travel all the way to look for the cache, I want finding it to be fun, not frustrating.
Other people might disagre
e though, and that's cool. That's why there are so many different kinds of caches. Different people like different types of caches. For me the adventure is all in getting there, I like caches to be a good hike to get too. Usually caches like that mean they are not too ridiculous to find, but are just ridiculous to get too. That's the kind of cache I like.
I read an article the other day, this guy was describing the "evolution" of the geocacher. He explained that as cachers get more into it, they figure out very specific cache types they like to find. That's basically how I am.
We did get to find this ridiculous "Stop sign ahead" sign. Alyssa noticed it and was like "are those bullet holes?" I laughed pretty good and thought, "Oh the country." Later on Alyssa found some shells, so I assume they are what was shot at this sign. It was a good laugh :).
When we were looking for our DNF, Alyssa also noticed a beer can at the very top of the tree. I don't really know how it got there. My hope is that someone put it there when the tree was very young, and it just grew like that... but my assumption is someone actually bent the branch down, put it on, and left it there. It just isn't as cool as my first thought though.
All in all it was a fantastic geocaching adventure. When I go to Orillia I never really see much of the actual place; I just stay at my aunts. This time I got to hike around a little bit, and that is always fun :). I will put the video up soon :).
Enjoy the pics and happy caching!!!
