Tested out the new hiking boots.
So I just got back from a really fun cache with ben4377. We decided to take Mr. Nimoy with us. He is just the funniest dog ever. He loves to get outside though and go on adventures. I was a little sad that the whole Chazown Trekerz team couldn't get together, but it was great, and a lot of fun.
We hiked through a pretty open area, just having to watch out for a few hydro poles. However in the spirit of Chazown Trekerz, we decided to make an adventure of it and go down to the bottom of the ravine (where the cache log says you are supposed to go anyways.
This was a bad idea, and led us into some pretty thick bush and no path walk on. While Nimoy had no problem, is was some intense bushwhacking for us city kids.As intense as it was, it was pretty great going through it all. So we didn't really know where we were going, just some stuff about creeks and ravines that were on the logs, but we were just gonna go for it. Our GPS, as you know, basically goes "as the crow flies," so it didn't really tell us much about any water. Once we finally got down to what seemed like a path there were creeks everywhere, so it took a little going back and forth across before we actually figured out where we were going. This park was beautiful. It was really nice. I encourage anyone reader who is thinking about
attempting this cache to take your time and absorb all that is around you. The fall is so gorgeous, and the forest was so colourful. It was really great. The hike may not be that intense to some geocachers, but to us, 3 stars is almost as big a deal as Obama, so I enjoyed it.
We also found a trackable. I had a few trackables that I brought back from my first caches in British Colombia, but the rest of Chazown Trekerz have never seen them before, so it was pretty cool to show them. I hope that one day our team can put out our own!
Anyways, the rest of the story is pretty simple, and I attempted to make a video of it. I'm not that good so my first one is pretty shaky, but we had an epic climb (where Nimoy struggled) and then, ben4377 redeemed himself! For those who are just catching up, ben had a pretty epic jump across a river, and even before that, we convinced him he was the ftf, while bigbangboy and I sat back and watched him search.
This time, ben found it first, and didn't let me know, and just sat back and watched me search. I was took focused on my GPS being confusing... and I missed out on this one. We caught it all on video too. However, his real win was when he crossed the river. Both video's are posted up, and this one has no words, you just have to watch :).
The video that's posted here has been edited so that you can see part of our adventure, but not the actual finding of the cache. We don't want to give any spoilers!! However, the link for the full video is just below if you really want to see it! Anyways, until next time!

Ben4377 wins!!!!
The walk back was a lot of fun, and there was a pretty great lesson learned. You see, I bought a coke (it's an addiction) for while we were looking for cache. It actually made things more difficult having to carry it around. While we were walking back, after I was over being embarrassed from not finding the cache, we were on the path, and I noticed that I no longer had my coke bottle. Ben told me I should go get it. It wasn't an easy walk, and we were already well on our way back... so I didn't want too. There was a lot of trash up there, and a fellow geocacher was going to put it on his list for CITO, so it didn't really matter; it was going to be picked up eventually anyways.
Last Friday at Chazown, we had a Bible Study about excuses. Often times when something comes up, we make up an excuse as to why we can't do it. Sometimes there are legitimate reasons why we can't do something, but often times ,we just make up an excuse. They may be our responsibility, but it's uncomfortable, or we're just too tired to bother. So I made up an excuse. After talking about it to Ben though, I realized that I was just making the same mistake that I was preaching about the night before. So I went back for my bottle. We raced up the hill (I won :-)) and got it and carried it until we found the correct place to throw it away.
On the real walk back however, Ben and I were talking and he said he really appreciates that I went to get the bottle. It made me a little happy that he appreciated it, and it got me thinking: so many people are so quick to get after people for doing something wrong, but rarely ready to pat someone on the back for correcting that problem. I appreciated ben for speaking up, and I think this is something important for everyone.
Anyways, I hope everyone enjoys the pics. Till next time!
